Emergency 911

Emergency 911 / e911

TTraditionally, dialing 911 anywhere within the United States and Canada from a landline at a business or residence directs your call to a local Public Safety Emergency Call Representative (PSAP), who is trained to assist in emergency situations by dispatching emergency medical care, fire and law enforcement to your location. The representative immediately receives your physical address information.

Bistelecom 911 Service differs from traditional 911 services due to the limitations caused by VoIP technology. It is almost impossible to detect where a call originates from when it passes through the Internet. e911 allows users to associate physical addresses with their DIDs, allowing them to have a service similar to traditional 911.

When a 911 emergency call is placed from our VoIP network, the physical address you declared at the time of e911 registration for a particular DID will be passed to your local PSAP providing the operator with the exact location assistance required.

Use of our e911 Service has an installation and registration fee of $1.50 upon activation and a regulated monthly charge of $2.00 per activated number.

It is not mandatory to register for e911. However, you will not be able to dial 911 from your Bistelecom account unless you have activated this service.

To activate this service, send us a message via the Contact page with the physical address you wish to associate with your local number (DID) and at the same time pay $3.50 (activation fee and first monthly payment) by the preferred payment method. An email message will announce that the e911 service has been successfully installed.

To test that your Caller ID is working properly, dial 1-555-555-0911 from the Bistelecom Network. The system will play your Caller ID, then a short pause, and then play the physical ID test result. To ensure that your device/DID is properly configured for e911, you must ensure that your Caller ID number exactly matches the DID number that is activated for 911. That is the only way to properly identify it. Otherwise your 911 call will not work. The correct Caller ID format consists of a 10-digit number, identical to your DID. For example, if your DID is 555.555.1234, your Caller ID number should be 5555551234.
